Today, Sep 9th, is the deadline that Simon of the Slam Idol Podcast and I agreed upon. He’s submitted a poem to me and I have submitted one to him. You will hear Simon’s poem on tomorrow’s “Second Sunday” show and my poem on an upcoming Slam Idol competition.

Although, it is still wide open until I do the actual recording. I may decide that a line doesn’t read right when recited.

The audio file talks mainly about change and how we as poets need to be flexible in our art. We need to write outside the lines sometimes. Don’t stick with a style that you know; try to learn something new. Thanks, Simon.

A poet I interviewed recommended that once. This is done to clear your head of the poem, so that you can come back with “fresh eyes”.

In the meantime, I’ll be thinking about and researching supporting sounds (wind, rain, lighting, etc) to enhance this audio drama poem. Maybe I’ll come up with a phrase/word for this genre. Is there already one out there??? Maybe “Poema”? Sure, that’s spanish for poem, but it could work…

Anyway, I usually start looking for sounds at FindSounds.com and then branch off from there.

I may add another stanza or so to the end, but we’ll see how it goes tomorrow after I sleep on it.

I like some of the storm analogies that I’ve added, but I don’t want it to be too over the top. (Yeah, we get it! He’s like a Hurricane. Jeez!)

I’m also getting a better idea of the emotion I want to convey as I read it. It gets easier with every take.

About 8, I guess.
The story is definitely getting darker and the tension is building.
I’m pretty sure the story will end badly, but there’s not much that I can do about that, since it seems to be writing itself. I’m just the narrator. :-)

Changed the voice and the perspective of the poem a bit this time. I still haven’t gotten past the first scene yet, but I think I will make some good progress tomorrow.

I can already “feel” the completion of this poem. The muse is definitley coaching me through this. Listen in and feel free to comment.
